Here you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions the editor of this fine piece of journalism receives from his dear readers:
What is the Clearcrest Chronicle?
The Clearcrest Chronicle is your one-stop source for breaking news coverage on the City of Clearcrest. We cover everything from dragon attacks to tavern brawls- whatever this city throws our way, you can bet that we’ll be there to get the facts!
Where is the City of Clearcrest located?
It’s located…somewhere. Hey, we’re not great at geography, okay? Geez.
Who runs the City of Clearcrest?
The City of Clearcrest is run as more of a democracy- we don’t need the hassle of rescuing the odd princess that monarchies tend to bring. That being said, the City of Clearcrest is broken up into five districts and each district elects a Chancellor to represent them. These Chancellors meet in the City Center to conduct their political business.
What are the five districts?
The five districts that make up the City of Clearcrest are:
- Golden Cape – Have some loose silver burning a hole in your pocket or need to off-load some gear from your last quest? The merchants in this district can help you with that.
- Philomath – Looking for a place of worship or somewhere to expand your intellectual horizons? Visit one of the many temples or universities in this district.
- Fool’s March – Looking to gamble away that precious coin of yours or need help with the removal of that annoying person in your life? There may be some characters in this district who can…assist you.
- Tinkertown – What they lack in height, the dwarves and gnomes of this area make up for with some serious mechanical know-how. They’re constantly crafting up ingenious machines.
- Skyleaf – Need a respite from the smog and hubub of crowded city life? Come visit Skyleaf- the elves here keep the district green and provide much of the food the city subsists on.
Why are magic items so rare here?
No one really knows. Hundreds of years ago, the art of permanent enchantment magic died with the only sorcerers who knew it. Since then many a scholar has spent their life devoted to the study of re-learning this magic. While we may never know what happened to this magic, one thing is for sure: enchanted items are few and far between nowadays! This shortage has lead to fame for those that have them, crime from the more unscrupulous that want them, and collectors who will do anything to get them.
What if I were to pass on from this world into the next?
Whoa. You got kind of deep there all of a sudden.
Well, without getting too deep into next-life philosophies or stepping on anyone’s religious beliefs- we here at the Chronicle believe in second chances. If you, as a glorified hero, were to make an unfortunate appearance in our Obituaries section, the Gods will grant you a fresh start…but there may be a slight penalty incurred.
No, seriously. What the hell is this?
…you just have no sense of imagination, do you? SHEESH.
The City of Clearcrest is the center of a large, West Marches-style Dungeons & Dragons campaign. We have no clear end in sight and want to take turns telling the story as it goes. This means that every player can also take the opportunity to DM a session- the only caveat being that they must respect all previously established world canon!
